5 Philips Air Fryer Reviews

Let's Review 5 Philips Air Fryers

Air fryers are awesome kitchen appliances. If you’ve never owned one, you are truly missing out. Not only do they provide you with a healthy method of preparing food (translation: the food you are cooking is not swimming in a pool of fat or oil) it’s a lot faster. When we say faster, we mean that for some foods, the air fryer will have them completely cooked and ready to eat in the time it takes to get your oven up to the proper temperature. Plus, for singles, you can’t beat the ease of use of an air fryer. You may never order take-out again once you start using one of these gadgets. But enough of the sell job. Let’s take a closer look at five of the top Philips brand air fryers and try to make sense of the differences between each to help you find the perfect one for your personal air frying pleasure.

The first unit we will take a look at has XXL in the name. That should tip you off that this is a big one that you can easily feed a family with without much problem. In fact, Philips clearly states that you can use the HD9861/99 to “cook a whole chicken or 1.4-kilograms of fries.” Sadly, we have no idea what size chicken they were referring to but let us assume it’s a biggie. As you would expect, this air fryer does a lot more than just air frying. You can use it to bake, grill, roast, and reheat foods. But what makes this particular Philips air fryer special from the rest? That’s easy. It happens to be the only air fryer that uses something Philips calls “fat removal technology” and we are quite certain that has nothing to do with deadlifts. This technology will separate and capture excess fat keeping it out of your meal. Oh, and the HD9861/99 is fast. It will cook your dinner 1.5 times faster than your oven and won’t pester you for a raise. The basket has a removable, non-stick mesh insert which makes it easy to clean and earns it the name of a QuickClean basket. You can also save your favourite cooking settings and more.

There’s a lot of good stuff connected to this Philips product that sets it apart from the one we just reviewed. Oh, and there are several similarities, but when you finally create the design that seems to work best, it just makes sense to make variations on that theme. For example, this is another Philips air fryer with XXL in the name. They say once again that it is big enough to fit a whole chicken or 1.4-kilograms of fries. There’s still no indication of the size of the bird we’re talking about. This particular unit has the Fat Removal Technology and will fry, bake, grill or roast anything you choose to sit inside of it. There are the QuickClean basket and an automatic shut-off. But there is more. The HD9650/93 has a digital display with a total of five preset cooking programs with a grill bottom that Philips says will “perfectly grill fish, meat, and more.” What gets our attention is the Keep Warm mode which gives you much more flexibility when it comes to serving dinner. You know, in case your date is running late or you’re involved in a phone call or watching something on TV that food can’t pull you away from.

Here’s something different. This air fryer has something Philips has named Rapid Air Technology. What this means, and it is quite impressive, is that this unit will produce 7x faster airflow which means whatever you choose to lock inside of the air fryer is going to come out extra crispy and it should happen a little quicker than you are used to with your current air fryer. As you would expect, the HD9721/21 does all the things your standard air fryer does such as fry, bake, grill, roast and preheat stuff. Although this is the most compact design of the Philips line of air fryers, they say it has a capacity of 0.8-kilograms which basically breaks down to four serving portions unless you are a big eater and then you may want to view this product as being capable of providing you with two good-sized portions. It’s your call. One more thing that makes this Philips item a bit different from the others is that all of the removable parts in this one are dishwasher safe. And compared to cooking food in your oven, the HD9721/21 is promoted as being 1.5 times faster to cook up a plate of fries and chicken drum sticks.

There’s something pretty cool about an air fryer that has something called Twin TurboStar Technology. Even if you have no idea what that is, it sure sounds interesting. As it turns out, Twin TurboStar Technology is what removes the fat from the foods you sit inside of this unit. Again, Philips added a digital display that contains a total of four preset cooking programs so you can load it up, shut the lid, click your preferred preset, and walk away until you hear the beeping sound that tells you dinner is ready to be served. There is also the keep warm function that will provide up to 30-minutes of warming action in case you are still getting the table set or waiting on someone to arrive for the meal. The QuickClean basket has a non-stick mesh and removable handle to make them easy to clean. The design of the HD9742/93 is another of the 0.8-kilogram size air fryers in the Philips line that they like to refer to as their most compact. The size makes it easy for storage, won’t eat up a lot of counter space while in use, and is perfect for feeding singles who just want to make something for dinner that doesn’t involve the microwave oven.

You don’t get to use the words “low fat” in the name of your product unless you can actually back that claim up. Well, Philips can do just that. The unique design of this air fryer features an interesting combination of things that result in low-fat cooking. These include the fast circulation of superheated air, a starfish design, and an optimal heating profile. While we’re at it, this specific unit also has Rapid Air Technology (we said the air was fast) and that means the air that circulates inside the basket is moving faster than your average air fryer. A neat feature of this model is the adjustable time and temperature settings that allow you to manually change these things which will come in handy if you want to add a few more minutes to something that isn’t quite crispy enough for you to crunch on. You can do a lot with this air fryer other than fry. You can grill, roast, and bake foods and it is easy to clean with all removable parts being dishwasher safe. That includes the non-stick coated drawer and the food basket. If you are a newbie to the world of air fryers, this one is a good choice to try out a different cooking appliance.

We have an air fryer. It changed the way we made dinner. Our oven is now used for storage as we rarely turn the thing on. With an air fryer, you can practically replace a handful of other kitchen gadgets that you probably don’t use anyway. Air fryers are different. They cook foods without the need for anything other than a little bit of oil. That most certainly beats having foods sitting in goop as your oven attempts to cook evenly although you know it isn’t going to be able to carry out that task. An air fryer can do that and so much more. Hopefully, the review of the 5 Philips Air Fryers here has helped convert you to air frying foods.

What Are The Best Foods To Cook In An Air Fryer?

Anything you can cook in an oven can pretty much be cooked in an air fryer!

The possibilities are endless … you can even use your air fryer to make comfort food!

Air Fryers are great for dishes such as chicken, beef, lamb, pork, seafood, even vegan meals. The Air Fryer can beautifully cook roasts, vegetables, steaks, meatballs, sausages … and a favourite in many homes; chippies!  You can cook sides, desserts, and snacks!

One of the great things about Air Fryer Cooking is you don’t need a lot of oil, in fact, for a lot of foods, you don’t need any oil!

How To Get the Best Out Of Your Air Fryer.

There is no doubt, Air Fryers make great fries as well as many great quick, easy and nutritious meals.

To get the best out of your Air Fryer, here are some tips to follow when using your Air Fryer, from Pre-Heating to Cleaning.

Pre-Heat Your Air Fryer.

To kick off, for optimal cooking, pre-heat your air fryer for approximately 3 minutes at the required cooking temperature before putting the food into the basket. This will also heat the cooking basket to the right temperature, and makes for yummy, crispy perfectly air fried food!

Give Your Food Room To Breathe!

Remember how an air fryer works? Hot air is circulated in and around the basket, so if the air fryer basket is overcrowded with food, your meal may not cook as well, or may not turn out as crispy as you had hoped. The food needs room to breathe, air to circulate so that the food cooks evenly.

For the most even cooking, remove the basket part way through cooking, say after 5 minutes, give it a gentle shake to toss the food, return the basket to continue cooking. You’ll achieve the best results by shaking the basket at least once, perhaps twice during the cooking time.

It is best to cook the food in smaller batches. Air Fryers are available in different sizes, such as the Philips XL Air Fryer, that is great for 4 people. If you would rather a larger capacity Air Fryer, say for 6 people, there’s the Philips XXL Air Fryer.

Caring For Your Air fryer.

To help your Air fryer to continue to do a great job, and to have it last longer, it is best to wash the basket and if your Air Fryer has one, the bottom tray each time you use it. It’s as easy as using hot soapy water, and depending on what you have cooked, it may need a soak and/or a slight scrub to removed the hard stuff. I always wash my air fryer tray and basket by hand, and never put it in the dishwasher. I do this at the end of cooking, and don’t let it sit unwashed! If you leave it unwashed, you risk any leftover debris (maybe breadcrumbs) burning the next time you use your air fryer, causing it to burn and smoke. Not safe and can ruin your next cook up!

You can make cleanup easier by using cooking spray in the basket before each use, or lining the bottom inner tray with baking paper or alfoil.
